Iran wants Saddam trial to include charges from 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war

[JURIST] Iran demanded that Saddam Hussein face charges in connection with the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war at the end of a landmark visit to Tehran this week by Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari [Wikipedia profile]. Iraq agreed in May 2005 to charge Saddam for his role in the war, and Iran says it is ready to hand over documents and other evidence relating to the conflict to the Iraqi Special Tribunal [official website; JURIST news archive]. Saddam's first formal charge [JURIST report] in his war crimes trial stemmed from the 1982 killing of 150 Shiites. Saddam has also blamed Iran [JURIST report] for a 1988 gas attack on the Kurds.
